Taste of Petersburg and Live Broadcast by WCIA

Friday, June 28 culminated a week of special reports and stories about “Our Town Petersburg” on WCIA TV, Channel 3. During the week they broadcast stories about interesting people and places in Petersburg and Menard County. Then on Friday, the ciLiving Show broadcast live from 4-5 pm from the town square in Petersburg and the cameras covered the Taste of Petersburg. The show’s hosts, Matt Metcalf, Heather Roberts and Joe Barlow talked with many area citizens, volunteers and local business owners. The evening newscasts at 5 and 6 pm were broadcast live as well by anchors Jennifer Roscoe and Dave Benton, along with Derick Fabert and Aaron Bennett. Springfield Bureau reports Steve Staeger and Ashley Michels were very instrumental in the event. The festive atmosphere showcased historic Petersburg.

The Taste of Petersburg was the first such effort that will be continued in the future. Local restaurants offered some of their favorite fare to the crowds. Hill Prairie Winery had a wine tasting and area merchants and vendors displayed their goods and services. Stier Trolley, the Alpacas of Indian Point and antique trucks, cars and tractors added to the festive atmosphere. Salem on Seventh Theatre showcased area singers. It was a great event sponsored by the Menard County Tourism Council and the Petersburg Chamber of Commerce.
